Perhaps the coolest part of this story is that it was retopo and now you have to redo that boring crap. I've been there.

I've lost a years worth of work with an accidental reformat. I think it was the one time I wasn't angry because if I let that get to me, I would have killed someone. Anyway all I can do is move ahead. Choo choo.

You learn to do this with software like Photoshop that lack many undo, but have the revert to last save function.

Ctrl+S is so ingrained into my skull that I have a habit of pressing it instead of Alt+W. So I save every 2-3 minutes anyway.

If you'r saved file isn't 0kb / 1kb or so, you should try making new scene, and importing content fro m old file - saved my ass several times, even if not all objects/modifiers were in place.

pffffft.... hour and a half..... Once 3Ds Max saw fit to delete its own scenes folder due to a bug, four years of unbacked scenes and models down the fucking drain. I actually quit modeling for a year because of that shit.
