  • Attention 4chan extension/user script/archive developers: Some time in the next few days, we'll be rolling out a complete HTML rewrite of the imageboards.
The design will remain the same, but the underlying HTML/CSS is completely new, and validates HTML5/CSS3 (with some tweaks to account for cross-browser compatibility).

Please visit this thread to read more about the changes, and here to preview the code.

As a regular user, these changes should not affect you. You will need to update your 4chan browser extensions/user scripts when their maintainer updates them to be compatible with the changes.
The official 4chan Chrome extension will be ready to go when the updates happen, and 4chan X should be ready soon. We'll post more details on the day of the migration!

What ever happened to the project based on this image?
I know people always joke about it never happening, but some people seemed interested.
Oh, and I'm aware that it has been popping now and then for a long long time.

Texturing. Almost all the pieces were modeled, and I think they're still available somewhere. But no one wanted to texture it. All the pieces needed to be cleaned up and UV mapped, and that is some time-consuming shit. There was one heroic individual who did a lot of it but I guess he burned out and never came back. Find the pieces, clean up the polygons, and start UV mapping and we'll all cheer you on.

I think it's about time /3/ had another collab thread.

mmmhm. I reckon it's worth a shot though. Maybe something a little less complicated or smaller scale than the last so that shit gets done.
Depends on how many of /3/'s 8 regulars is keen really.

just let it die with some dignity

    please

This collab project is what attracted me here in the first place. I made my way here and suddenly the board turns to utter shit.

    Story of my life.

Same here man. I used to come on here to check out the progress and learn a few things here and there from peoples feedback.
Now I come on here to see people call each other retards.

Actually, why do I come on here now?
    >> Anonymous 04/26/12(Thu)06:37 No.278043
I remember seeing people posting up pieces and others keep of track of what do/done.

If anyone knows where the peices are I could start mapping it. It will take ages but it could look great.
    >> Anonymous 04/26/12(Thu)06:42 No.278044
I read a while back (and I could be wrong) that the guy "running" the last collab took the work and put it forward as his own.

    Can anyone verify that?

Last time I saw it, it was no where near finished.

If he put it forward as his own, then anybody looking at it will see he takes on bigger projects than he can handle and doesn't finish them.
    >> Anonymous 04/26/12(Thu)10:41 No.278068
Yeah we regularly have these 'what happened to that project?' threads. I don't think the project was going anywhere, anyway. The design of that city is nothing special - at least not special enough to justify the man-hours of replicating an already-existing picture in 3d. Really, it's just a bunch of... stuff. Lots of detail with no concepts that draw your eyes to any single part of the picture. It looks like static.

A few other projects have been proposed, which could have actually gone somewhere, but /3/ responded to them by - guess what - getting really really mad, and that was that.

I think we should start a thread and see how many are interested, putting ideas forward, nothing too big.

    Doesn't hurt to try.
