No.46[Reply]

The Bibliotheca Anonoma is a research library tasked with collecting, documenting, and safeguarding the grand legacy of Internet Folklife.

Wiki: http://github.com/bibanon/bibanon/wiki

http://bibanon.org

This is a general thread to hold us over while we set up our permanent Atob-based Textboard. http://github.com/atobs/atob Vyrd was a good partner of us, but we're not sure how long his site is going to last, so migration is necessary.

mods turning on forced anonymous posting was also a regular occurrence 2006 or something and on, if i remember correctly

not sure where evidence on that could be found, maybe there are blotter archives

i remember it being reasonably controversial and changing the culture of the boards significantly

or rather, maybe just /b/. it may have just been a /b/ thing.

Fuck yeah. I'm actually thinking about making a static copy of that public, like we did for Shii's Wiki:

http://bibanon.org/everything-shii-knows/

Is that every board on the textboards? Also how is the database structured?

>>83
Ok that's pretty damn Interesting, I'll look into that, probably will post it to the Internet Archive.

Ok, found the original author's thread, it was posted to our threads on /qa/.

https://archive.moe/qa/thread/71704/#86323

Seems complete, I'll get to it.

Yo, I'm the dude who made you .docx you are hosting right now. I'd like to thank you for saving it. Now, I have been working on it for while, and divided it into two, one with the summary and time-line and another with the anecdotal info from Shii and 0037 from world2ch.

You can have them if you are interested.

Sup. It's antonizoon from the Bibliotheca Anonoma. We're migrating our 4chan Chronicle to Wikibooks, as an actual, well-sourced history textbook (and because the Github wiki has it's limits). Let's merge our work back together, here.

https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/4chan_Chronicle

A lot has changed since the last time we spoke. For one, anons have finally started to maintain a near-complete timeline of major events on 4chan, with parts borrowed from our wiki. We will be using that as a major secondary source to fit our chronology.

http://tanasinn.info/wiki/Complete_History_of_4chan

I've also put together a near comprehensive list of all Fuuka archivers known to exist (and their oldest threads) at the ArchiveTeam Wiki. This will seriously help for finding threads after 2010.

http://archiveteam.org/index.php?title=4chan#Fuuka-based_Archivers

And did you know that 2channel is now itself history? After crippling lawsuits, credit card leaks, vicious yellow journalism from Matome Blogs, and a community split between Jim Watkins and Hiroyuki, the modern 2ch.net and 2ch.sc are shadows of their former self. It's a good time to record what is left, before it's legacy is lost to the sands of time.

Man, it's been a while. Right now I'm archiving some stuff at 8chan (of all places!), I'll check up in wikibooks as soon as possible.

I'd also like to apologize for disappearing from github. Uni was more time consuming than I though, and there's a very big chance I have too many hobbies.

And I'll add something else: Bemindful that I'm in it for serious (kek) recording of imageboard history. I don't have a knack for novelizations and all that stuff, which I believe may go astray from truth. This doesn't mean I'll help though. To be clear: I may disappear for months, but unless I explicitely state I'm not going to continue with the work, always expect me to return.

Anyways, I've recently come in contact with the janiteam logs, which took me compeltely by surprise. A very pleasant surprise, to add. Those logs where enlightening. I have much more respect for Team 4chan than ever.

The leaks also mean a new version of the 4chan .doc is due:

Hey there. Well, this new effort is not really a novelization like the last time, it will be a serious effort like yours. It will just put certain works of art and stories into context (just like a real textbook does), since those can immerse someone in how it actually felt to be in that time period.

We've recently discovered quite a few solid sources, especially Moot's panel videos, and some remnants of Chanarchive on the Internet Archive.

It's more about… well, connecting projects from people like you with other interested editors. The 4chan.doc is great, but as you say, you yourself might not have time to keep it up in real time.

But a wiki format allows any interested anon to help keep it up-to-date, just like Tanasinn's Complete 4chan History (which monitors every day). It's also just more accessible for anons to view and search for, than a .doc file.

It's a community effort in the end, so I felt like you might want to be part of it.

Included in the download link below is an archive of all nurse-kun fanart, the original treads, the old wikichan page on NK, and a few other random /b/ copypasta saved from wikichan. It's doing no good on my hard drive, and it seems no one is seeding the torrents (I would but apparently my file is off by a difference of about ten bites), here seems to be the best place to share it.

I also have the original videos from the otakon panel, if you want them just ask and I'll eventually get around to uploading them. You could try the torrent links, but they're probably long dead.

otakon 2006 panel: http://www.4chan.org/torrent/4chan_The_Otakon_2006_Panel.torrent
otakon 2006 aftermath: http://www.4chan.org/torrent/4chan_The_Otakon_2006_Aftermath.torrent
otakon 2007 panel: http://www.4chan.org/torrent/4chan_The_Otakon_2007_Panel.torrent
otakon 2007 aftermath: http://www.4chan.org/torrent/4chan_The_Otakon_2007_Aftermath.torrent

archive download: http://www.mediafire.com/?pskkup85o0nv87c

Cheers.

No.13

Yep, they're pretty dead. Thanks nonetheless, and if you do find the time to upload them at some point I would love to have them.

And the NK stuff is another great resource. I'll see about putting this up in a (hopefully) organized form soon along with some other manually archived threads I have lying around.

No.14

Sorry for the wait. I've included two other panels, one from 2005, the other from 2006.

Magnificent, thank you and apologies for my own delays in responding. I'm currently messing around with how to organize the new stuff on here, hoping to have at least something up by the end of the week (I'm obviously not very on top of things).

No.16

>>15
It's rather late, but at this point I have various versions of all the chapters organized, plus the other NK wikichan pages. I still need to set up the other miscellaneous wikichan items and some other content I have/am planning to salvage, along with working more on things I already put up (like /j/). It's getting somewhere, I guess.

By the way, would you happen to know anything about why the original threads for chapters 8, 9, and 11 are missing? (I'm not really surprised by 7a, I figured it may not have been saved in the first place, but the others seem like a significant gap.) Were they missing from wikichan's old megaupload file as well? Not irritated, just curious.

No.69

I'm surprised those panel videos have vanished in such a short time. Disheartening.

Well, I'm not abandoning it just yet. So far I've got probably 1100-1200 more screencaps that are suitable for upload here, plus I'm planning to mirror most of the other individual thread archivers' collections here because most of them are someone's side project and it's just safer to have the content distributed, plus I'm planning shortly to put up a static version of yswiki here because it's been down for several months now. (It's taken some effort to edit into usable form because of all the spam/vandalism included in it, he didn't remove anything from the database before exporting - I'm just culling down to the final clean version of each page, and it'll be in plain HTML.) This latter, as you know, includes Jkid's supposedly complete restoration of wikichan, among other interesting things like the English-translated history of Futaba. And then, I dunno, I got some more stuff lying around, like all the original /b/-sides complete with the pictures (I think bibanon just has the text), and I've been thinking of trying to make a more thorough board timeline of my own, and I might be able to dredge up something else, who knows.

Thanks for your comment, anon. I'm happy that people have found this collection useful, even if it is perpetually incomplete.

No.20

>>19
I like that everything is in one place. All the information available here was scattered between a lot of sites in the past, which made it feel incomplete and disjointed. It's good that Jkid's work is also being integrated. YS is the closest project of this sort I knew of before I found myself here.

No.39

>>19
If you can, once everything is ready try and have it mirrored in lots of places.

It's a big problem with archival projects like these that archives keep being lost or damaged.

I'm very glad this site exists though. I try and follow this sort of thing myself. If I have anything not hosted here I'll try and get it through.
