I am studying 3D graphics at a community College with the hopes of finding work in the field. All I know for sure is that at the end of the course I can jump right into an internship making simulators for the military.

    alright fine.

Im working on a car that is going to be 100% photo realistic. This is the brake calliper. Really fun to model.

Let's see the rest. I'm interested in seeing what "100% Photorealistic" means.

100% photo real means that it is going to be 100% photo real except for places where I want to add more detail where IRL there is none. For example, Im adding a moon roof when the original doesnt have it.

I'll be doing the interior, the trunk interior, the fuel cap

Going to be putting fine detail on the tire treads, the little rubber markings, tat are there. Im going to get all of my materials 100% correct.

I figure that I'm 60-70% done, been working on it for about 2 weeks. I could have been a lot quicker, but then it wouldnt be photoreal and I would hate looking at the final result.

I worked for BioWare for a while while, but the employees there drove me up the fucking wall. Half of them didn't know how to just play around with dynamics, and the other half were stumbling over workflow when dealing with 2 or more programs.
Honestly....I don't see how that sectional department of BioWare got ANY of their shit done. Most modelling and UV work was passed to myself and a young asian fellow.
I would give those pricks tutorials every friday "here - watch this on the weekend - it will TOTALLY help you guys".
Come monday, all they could talk about is fucking hockey. I won't be surprised if EA shuts down BW Edmonton this year.
These days, I'm doing freelanced work, coordinating with the City & three local architecture firms (one of which is supplying a steady amount of work, producing interiors, storage & room customization). I'm getting paid much more handsomely than EA/BW had been.

another one bites the dust. Couldnt hack it in hollywood, couldnt make it in videogames, now doing Arch viz with a baby on the way.

I predict McDonals in your future

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.
Once you pull the balls back out of your vadge, perhaps you should contact me. I have jobs for you, if you're willing to take a busy workload, and aren't shy of money.
Oh...McDonalds. You're just angry with the world, aren't ya champ?
The thing you fail to realize is that hollywood or videogames is not always the best way to earn money. While I don't regret leaving a videogame JOB behind, I learned from the experience - to the point where I located myself to an area where I had enough contacts, and knew I'd have clientele to support me with work.

I'm just going to conclude with my assumption that you just love videogames, the dream will never die, BioWare is your holy grail, and any that oppose it, they are destined to lead the same fate you have, during community college, or whatever 'thing' you went to.

    >> Anonymous 12/07/11(Wed)01:36 No.245846
I also am a pro. Doing medical animation now because its still fun as hell and pay is much more steady than when I was freelancing.

Been at animation for about six years now. I also have a child on the way. the wife did animation, but does more design and motion graphics stuff now.

worked on monster quest which was shitty as hell (season 1) rigged for Open season 2, a movie that got started then shelved, some madagascar 2 mcdonalds commercials, and modeled and rigged for the adult swim games 5 minutes to kill yourself 2 and fairway to hell (the golf one. they might have changed the name)

keep at it students. its a kick ass career.
    >> Anonymous 12/07/11(Wed)03:01 No.245849
I am probably four years away from my BFA and can't worry about getting work in my field. Yet I still manage to get freelance jobs on a whim from time to time... meaning only twice....

Sounds like you didnt really make it. And by "didnt really make it" i mean that you are basically a pro in the same sense that someone whos a member of a professional sports team but never gets put in the game because he or she sucks so much is also pro.

In this 3d game i only respect artists that do AAA stuff. You know - Batman, Tintin, LoTR, avatar type stuff.

"artists" whos only work they could get was on Open Season 2 and Fairway to Hell shouldnt really be posting here imo. Nobody wants your shit advice. We dont want to turn into failures like you. This is also my main problem with this board. Everyone except me is a failure.
