    151 KB Role-playing on /jp/ Anonymous ## Janitor 03/28/08(Fri)14:12 No.1129   [Reply]
For the past few weeks now, there have been various roleplaying sorts of threads on /jp/, where the OP will create a thread and present the users with choices for the direction that the story should take, like a visual novel or a choose your own adventure book. Up until now, I've left them alone because they always concerned themselves with /jp/-related topics (mostly Touhou), but there seems to be a pretty big backlash against them now, and the threads only attract trolls and naysayers.

/jp/ is pretty young, and there really isn't a whole lot of policy in place yet, so I'm wondering how threads like this should be dealt with. On one hand, the threads concern themselves with /jp/ topics, but on the other hand, they are more games than they are quality discussion, and many users feel that the overabundance of these threads detracts from the quality of the board as a whole. Maybe these little games are better off on /b/ or /r9k/. If some mods could tell us how to handle these threads, that would be great. I'd also appreciate the input of /jp/'s other janitors. Thanks.

    haha oops, I didn't mean to say "don't". I'm not a hick, I swear. Ah, I'm tired.
    >> Anonymous 03/30/08(Sun)08:39 No.1135
Personally, I would be willing to live with roleplay threads on /jp/ if they stopped spamming every thread asking "where is (author)?!" "(author) said he'd be here!" "when did (author) say he'd come?" That's what bothers me the most.

Even if I personally hate the roleplaying threads, I can live with them. Much like I do the occasional threads full dollfie or kigurumi. It's the constant spam that I can't take.
    >> Anonymous ## Janitor 03/30/08(Sun)13:01 No.1136
I'd strictly vote against them given the chance. They can go to gaia or myspace for that shit. Roleplay just doesn't at all seem like imageboard appropriate content to me.
    >> Anonymous ## Mod 03/31/08(Mon)08:54 No.1137
My sentiments on a problem like this is that it isn't a problem until the user base decides it is. If people are actually complaining now, it should be removed for the good of the imageboard, otherwise leave it.

No roleplaying on boards that aren't /b/.

How about some sort of hide/auto-sage button that lets the guy flooding a thread with porn think he's having a grand ol' time, while it goes unnoticed to everyone else? Plenty of these guys just start up more threads over and over again, and rather than having to babysit some asshole, this could buy some time before a mod can come over and ban him.

So Cloverfield is out now, and I'd rather not have to try and decide which of the 100 threads to keep and which to delete. A sticky to keep it all in would be great.
    >> Anonymous 01/18/08(Fri)03:21 No.1105
Yeah, one in /x/ would be helpful as well, since there's already about 20 on the first couple of pages.
    >> Anonymous ## Mod 01/19/08(Sat)01:35 No.1106
I fixed the problem in /x/ by killing off some of the threads and letting them all funnel into one. It's all under control now. Don't really need an entire 2 pages worth of 1 topic.

36 KB Sticky request: stop requesting music Anonymous ## Janitor 01/04/08(Fri)00:26 No.1090   [Reply]
Every time I hop on to /mu/, I find about an entire page worth of posts like "sup /mu/ requesting daft punk rapidshits" on the board. I delete and ban-request these posts for being requests outside of /r/ and for requesting copyrighted material, but there are even more posts like this the next day. I know that stickies are pretty rare, but I think that a simple one that says something like "Please stop making requests for music" would be really helpful, as it would educate many of the posters who clearly don't even know/care about the rules. The sticky would also probably motivate posters to report request threads in the future too.

    Thanks.

I'm running into the same thing on /s/. I delete them, as they are quite an obvious /r/, and it is reposted two or three times with one image and the "hey mod, this isn't an /r/!" but it is. I try to lurk /r/ as much as I can to answer inquries. The sticky at the top of the board was actually getting the job done quite well- but now that it's gone, the /r/s started up again right away
    >> Anonymous ## Janitor 01/07/08(Mon)23:59 No.1096
Ah yeah, I guess requests really are a problem everywhere. Perhaps it was selfish of me to just ask for a sticky on /mu/.

    >>1094
/c/ seems to have a lot of veiled requests like "glasses thread GO!", where the OP posts one or two pictures, but then nothing else in the hope of getting his or her request filled. I tend to leave those threads alone because they almost always turn into a quality thread eventually with 50+ posts. I hope that is the right thing to do. I try to get rid of really obvious requests though.

    >>1095
Lurking /r/ is a good idea and I bet that it helps things on other boards. Maybe I should start doing that. Of course, it won't fix things on /mu/, since requesting commercial music is always against the rules.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/08(Tue)00:23 No.1097
    >>1096
I don't really consider it a request if the OP actually contributes something. Even if it's just one or two posts.

I usually nuke the thread unless the OP posts more than 3 images, then I leave it...

    >>1098
    Same.

TBH I wasn't sure how to moderate these posts. Back not even 6 months ago it seemed like a fairly okay thing to do and the threads usually turned out just fine. I guess it's some sort of mass reform by a few posters, but considering the mass influx of requests, it's probably a good thing all the same.

After much thought and sticking around uselessly for far longer than I probably should have, I think it's about time I resign from this mess. I seldom look at my board anymore, much less enough to do more than check the reports.

spammed on their boards, or am I the only one? I'm having one come up every 30 seconds and i'm curious. Seems to be another "click and get points" type site. It's actually a site that apparently installs viriuses on your computer and is completely useless.
    >> Anonymous ## Manager 01/08/08(Tue)17:15 No.1100
yes it is a thing we are banning for and they should not appear on your boards.

I'm seriously tired of this shit, is there ANYTHING we can do to stop morons from continuously posting shit in /d/. I don't browse /b/ so I have no idea if they're provoked or not. Even if it were, /d/'s "attacks" on /b/ is like pissing in an ocean of piss, whereas /b/ floods /d/ off in 2 minutes.

BAN RUSSIA FROM POSTING. PLEASE. Anonymous ## Mod 11/28/07(Wed)06:26 No.1068   [Reply]
As in subject, since no one answers my requests on the IRC channel, might as well post it here.
For the past month, and maybe longer, this faggot has been shitting up /a/ and /v/ every goddamn day. Autobans are no use.
All I can do is autosage his threads, since he'll just come back and post AGAIN.

Once again, PLEASE BAN RUSSIA FROM POSTING.

Seems kind of severe to punish all of Russia just for 1 man.

I haven't been paying too much attention to these threads, but they seem to be developing an /i/nvasion-like tone. Taking pics of the guy at his school, plans to steal his "medallion", etc. How should these threads be treated?
    >> Anonymous 11/06/07(Tue)11:40 No.1064
I'd delete the ones that aren't obvious /v/ related (like this one), and any more invady-sounding ones (like "HERE IS HIS ADDRESS/EMAIL/PHONE NUMBER") you should banrequest.

108 KB Reason for previous bans? Anonymous 10/07/07(Sun)22:58 No.1061   [Reply]
Is there any way that we could see the reasons for previous ban requests on a reported post? There's an obvious difference between the penalties posting porn in a worksafe board and say, CP or something, and I'm kind of scared of a guy that posted that stuff only being banned for a day because of an unrelated offense.
    Picture unrelated.
