    158 KB Motivational Posters Anonymous 10/20/06(Fri)20:11 No.272
Is there a policy on motivators in /a/? They're arguably on par with image macros, and at best, one step removed. The vast majority are pretty useless, and simply regurgitate memes or not-so-witty saying.

    Are these deletable?
    >> Anonymous ## Manager 10/20/06(Fri)20:13 No.273
delete them. if a person continues to post them over and over, request a ban.

Any chance of a sticky announcing this (like the /g/ sticky prohibiting support threads)? Alot of people post them, and the sudden appearance of seemingly-arbitrary deletions will probably piss them off.

I was under the impression that if an image macro/motivational poster is relevant to the thread or discussion, somewhat humorous, and inoffensive it would be fine. moot was saying even though these break the rules, sometimes they should be allowed to stay. Are we not evaluating these posts separately anymore?

For reals. The instant one with a picture of a cock on a PS3 gets deleted a million more spring up with posts begging Godwin to be invoked.

If it's relevant, it's one thing, I hold it to the same standard as an image macro (if it's related to the topic at hand and not offensive, I let it stay). However, motivators are omnipresent in /a/ at times. After Alternative replied above, I deleted an ENTIRE THREAD consisting of nothing but motivators, all about motivators. Even the OP was a motivator.

That's the type of thing I'm talking about, not the occasional funny motivator. So a sticky suggesting that motivators will be treated the same as image macros would hopefully deter these off-topic floods, and effectively make my job easier.

I made a sticky. If its actually funny, you can leave it. otherwise, get rid of it

I just posted this to /a/ and am crossposting it here:

"Okay so I decided to post here to address some recent problems /a/ has apparently had. First of all, if you chose to grumble on the boards as opposed to emailing me; you're an idiot. I've said time and time again to email me if there are problems. Turning the board into a war zone will more likely get you banned than solve any problems.

Anyway, on to the two points of contention: motivational posters and the anime-ecchi border.

Honestly, I think motivational posters are usually pretty dumb. There *are* pleasant surprises though--I've laughed at a few. My stance on them in /a/ has always been that of "they're harmless, so leave them alone". Technically, they're macros, and thus are against the rules. If you didn't already realize this, go check them again! Still though, if they're contributed to a thread and don't act as a negative, I think they're fine to say. This being said, the images are fine so long as you guys don't start dedicating entire threads to their worship, turning /a/ into "/a/ - IMAGE MACRO APPRECIATION STATION".

As for whether or not nudity can be posted. Nudity isn't worksafe and is thus, against the rules. My personal stance on it has been "if I don't see nipples or vagina, I don't really care". There are exceptions though. Blatant/overtly sexual images should not be posted. There IS an ecchi board for a reason. If you contribute a borderline/mild image of a character to a thread about a show, I think it should stay. Don't go make entire threads dedicated to the stuff though--again, there's an entire board for it!

I hope this clarifies any recent misgivings about rule enforcement/policy. In closing, stop blaming the moderators and janitors for doing their jobs. You ARE technically in violation of the rules when it comes to this stuff. EMAIL ME if there are problems--turning the board into an opinionated bitch-fest will get you banned, as it should.

    love,

    -mootykins"
