from /v/ and /x/ here, I'm heading to England for 8 days, I'm bringing
my laptop and hopefully will find enough intermittent hotspots to check
around, but something tells me ye olde country bread and breakfast has
not yet adopted telephonograph technology. | ###.###.###.###

think promoting a few more janitors who are constantly in the IRC

lot less work. | ###.###.###.###

these people should not BE janitors. Or at least they should probably
be explained the right way to do it, and if they continue doing it wrong
they should not be janitors.
That's why a 1 hour tempban might
be a good idea. It lets us stop the idiots from posting CP or whatever,
and if we were wrong, the mods (whenever they show up) can remove it (or
let it expire). If a janitor is doing a lot of 1 hour bans that were
over-banning, that should be very obvious. They don't even have to be full bans, what >>920 suggested would work perfectly fine, I think.
Maybe
add a way for janitors to get feedback on their bans? Like have a page
where they can see the banrequests that were not accepeted. Right now I
don't know if I'm underrequesting or overrequesting unless a mod yells
at me on IRC. (Only really useful in combination with giving janitors
more banning power, but would still be nice to have otherwise. Again,
I'd be glad to help code this stuff) | ###.###.###.###

think the only new system I'd want is the banding together to ban or
delete. I am all for getting CP posters banned immediately, and I'd love
to be able to delete shit on other boards if those janitors aren't
around. It seems too stupid to sit there and stare at rule
breaking/illegal posts on someone else's board and know you can't do
anything about it (as this last week or so has shown.)
Anything else sounds like a hassle that would only end up pissing off everyone. | ###.###.###.###

why it would only stop them from posting, not from browsing. If
something doesn't deserve a ban they shouldn't ban request anyway, and
I'm sure the mods will yell at them for it if they spam pointless ban
requests, so the benefits would far outweigh any inconvenience. | ###.###.###.###

Interesting
idea. Not sure if it would entirely work, since I've seen so many
'lolz I evaded ur ban' threads, but it would give us some kind of
breathing room, especially since I'm sure most of us have to deal with
repeat offenders on our boards. Maybe an extra 'suspend posting
privilages' button in the case of spammers and the like? | ###.###.###.###

| 920 | 05/11 13:24 | Anonymous | | That would be nice...That
would be nice, floods are annoying as hell and they can go on for hours
at a time. Perhaps making it so that when a janitor ban requests
someone, that IP can no longer post until a moderator processes the ban
request, but he would still able to browse the site in the meantime. To
me that is preferable to us being able to give out actual temp bans
because it isn't really a punishment but it would keep them from posting
crap until a mod either clears it or bans him. | ###.###.###.###

simply ban requesting doesn't stop them from posting whatever they want
until a moderator gets to the ban request, especially a time of the day
when there's no moderators on at all. | ###.###.###.###

I feel like we're constantly being yelled at to be in IRC, yet I've
been able to actually contact a mod in there maybe twice in the last few
weeks, when I feel like I've been in there trying to find one almost
every day. It's really frustrating to see people come back after we ban
request them, and to see shit go untouched on boards we don't janitor.
I've posted links to a couple threads on other boards that have lasted
hours without anyone in IRC doing anything :(
I can't code and I
really shouldn't say anything about THAT ANONYMOUS JANITOR ABOVE ME and
what he can or can't do, but I agree with his options there 100%. | ###.###.###.###

Janitors say on IRC "any mods around? Someone is spamming" 4. idiot continues to spam while janitors try to delete all the posts One
idiot yesterday spammed every single board THREE TIMES before he was
banned. Someone was just doing with child porn it on /b/, posted at
least 4 pictures (and I still don't think he's banned) Can you please, PLEASE either 1. Promote some janitors to mods 2.
Give janitors some way to ban people, at least temporarily (say one
hour). Before I left I remember some mention of a system where multiple
janitors could ban someone by "combining their power", maybe that should
be implemented? (I'm willing to code it!) 3. GET ON IRC A LITTLE MORE OFTEN PLEASE
The
spam on our boards is bad enough but when people can post insanely
illegal child porn many many times in a row it's really really bad. Hey, my report icon just went red... | ###.###.###.###

something else than the topic into a thread. We don't have many threads
that will exist on /a/. But the reports keep coming in about it.
